JO Bud is the first single for Really Great's upcoming album, and is actually a rerecording of a song from our first EP! much like when i originally released it, i want to plug jae bearhat's gay apathy zine, because it helped me understand some of the feelings i was having when i wrote this song - you should absolutely check it out (and give jae money for it if you can)! you can find it here: jbearhat.itch.io/gay-apathy

one thing that i'm constantly worried about is that this song comes across as sex-negative and/or judgmental of people who use grindr etc. even though i've learned that the hookup culture on those apps isn't for me, there's obviously nothin wrong with using them for that if you want! i think for me this song is really more about an earlier time in my personal journey with my sexuality, burdened with the expectations of other people and a lack of queer community. i hope that makes sense! to anybody who feels that way currently: dont worry, you will find your niche! :)

jake does some really amazing guitar stuff on this song and i think a lot of really great songs get like five times more complex once he's through with em! those jazz chords! the guitarmonies! that thing at the very end?? sweet guy and amazing guitarist.

also, my pal omar told me parts of this song remind him of "live and learn" from the sonic adventure 2 battle soundtrack, which is the best thing ive heard in my whole life.
