about
notes: JO Bud was our first single for so far, no good, and is actually a rerecording of a song from our first EP! much like when i originally released it, i want to plug jae bearhat's gay apathy zine, because it helped me understand some of the feelings i was having when i wrote this song - you should absolutely check it out (and give jae money for it if you can)! you can find it here: jbearhat.itch.io/gay-apathy
one thing that i'm constantly worried about is that this song comes across as sex-negative and/or judgmental of people who use grindr etc. even though i've learned that the hookup culture on those apps isn't for me, there's obviously nothin wrong with using them for that if you want! i think for me this song is really more about an earlier time in my personal journey with my sexuality, feeling burdened with the expectations of other people and a lack of queer community. i hope that makes sense! to anybody who feels that way currently: dont worry, you will find your niche! :)
lyrics
i dont wanna be your JO bud
i dont wanna be your bottom slut
i dont wanna look in the mirror
and always feel like im not good enough
but i dont really know what i can do
when im always thinking about you
in some imaginary world where things work out
i install all these apps (just as a test)
but they end up making me depressed
i just want to meet someone i like
i dont want to watch you get undressed
but i dont really know what i can do
clubs just arent my thing and i cannot choose
between the vomiting and loneliness tonight
and i don't think i can do this anymore
this culture shakes me to my very core
when you don't feel like you belong
and youve never been very strong
you think about how much it hurts
you really do believe youre cursed
when youre alone again in bed
the thoughts that rush into your head
you wish you didn't feel this way
is this just part of being gay?
dylan writes in such a delicate and careful way - incredibly different from my slapdash garbage! this album in particular is a personal favorite. their songs are intimate in a breathtaking kind of way Really Great
wheelie? is an incredibly good album - it's jam-packed with lyrics that will make you think AND feel. the speedy guitar playing impresses the heck outta me - TMC really hit it outta the dang park Really Great
